Durian Cream Cake

The most enjoyed fruit in the family has got to be Durian. Give me the whole fruit and I'm one happy girl and the same applies for everyone else. Around Chinese New Year, we had a gathering at my Aunty's place. If only I had the ability to split myself in two, I would have loved to join them, but reality can be a real 'censored' sometimes.

To cheer them up for my absence, I thought a Durian Cake would be ideal. Think about it, a layer of vanilla sponge then spreadwith Fresh Whipped Cream and Durian; this is heaven. I have made a Durian Crepe Cake before and received feedback that the Durian was not prominent enough. This time round, I made sure they were left speechless, melted by the goodness of taste.

As Durian is not in season now, I opted for Frozen Durian, which I purchased from the Asian groceries in Springvale. According to my memory, they come in 500ml boxes, containing 3-4 pieces each. You can either get the ones with seeds or the seedless ones, which cost a few dollars more.

  2. Hey Joanne,

Yes I am well aware of your love for Durian. I remember you telling us about one occassion where your Grandma had bought Durian home, insisting that you should leave some for your Dad. In the end, she ate it herself :)

Once Durian Season arrives, I shall make a Durian Cake. In the meantime, I'll probably stick to making Green Tea cakes and fruit cakes :)
